WORKSHOPS
Please use the "Contact Me" option from the website sidebar to express interest and register for any of the following workshops. I would also be happy to customise a workshop for you including other techniques including textile painting, rag crochet, pieced and stitched kimono jacket, recycling clothing and cloths, leather masks, recycled materials masks, recycled materials armour or any variety of textile techniques.
TEXTILE RETEXTURING
Learn the basics of modern smocking and fabric manipulation including how to create a grid, interpret diagrams, and choose fabrics. We will spend the morning discussing the history of smocking and learning the basic technique. At 12:30 we will break for a wonderful lunch featuring Mama Bergs delicious savory pies and a salad with locally sourced produce. The afternoon will be spent in sociable smocking and creative discussions. Participants will be asked to bring fabric, needle, thread, scissors, marking pen/pencil, ruler, and a long straightedge ruler if possible. SHIBORI DYEING
Shibori is an original tie-dye technique from Japan. In this workshop you will learn two simple techniques involving folding, clamping, and pole wrapping. Participants will be asked to provide fabric and some materials. MIXED MATERIALS JEWELRY Participants will create pendants using fabric, decorative stitching, embroidery, painting, and beading, creating miniature works of art. Participants will be asked to bring some materials, and may purchase some materials at the workshop. |
PARTNER MASK MAKING (for adults and children age 10 and up).
This class is an opportunity to create masks in an extraordinary trust exercise. Bring a partner, or a young friend, or an older friend; you will use plaster bandages to create a replica of each other's faces. If time allows, you will learn to make paper mache copies. Participants will be asked to provide some materials, and to purchase plaster bandages at the workshop. |
BASIC COSTUME BREAKDOWN
This is an intensive 7-hour workshop especially for stylists, on-set costumers, and those interested in ageing techniques to create realistic and enhanced effects on costumes. There will be an one hour break for lunch (not provided). Participants will be asked to bring garments to work on. |
